Took some friends for lunch; they were visiting from the Northeast. We all loved the food. Could not fault any of it, but the Coronation Chicken and onion soup were amazing. But if you like desserts then buckle up because they are beyond compare!

Visited this absolute gem of a place in Ulverston last night for the Cumbrian Coastline set menu evening. Every course was just phenomenal… a dream for fish lovers! When asked to choose a favourite course it was an impossibility … every one was special in its own way.

This was our first visit to Base and certainly won’t be our last. The menu is interesting and inventive without being weird and represents very good value for money. The cooking and presentation are spot on. Staff are efficient, welcoming and friendly. Thank you for really excellent lunch!

As regular visitors we know how exceptional the food is here which is why we booked it for a private party for my wife’s 40th birthday. We had the whole place to ourselves, 40 people being served the best locally sourced food created by Mark and his team and brought to the table by the lovely Abi and Kirsty. Having a menu created just for your event is something special in itself but having a team you know so well look after all your friends with such care and attention so that all of them mention it made the evening unforgettable. We also hired the upstairs space for a band and watched the sun set over Ulverston while working our way through the extensive bar selection. Once again Mark you showed why you are one of the best in the business, you deliver the perfect creative dining experience with a personal service that restaurants throughout the country can only dream of achieving.

Such a wonderful evening out. We’ve been fortunate to visit twice now, and brought a guest with us last time. The food is wonderful, matching wine I would recommend. The service is lovely, particularly the lady with the blonde ponytail, wish I’d caught her name; she’s very knowledgeable and friendly! Mark and team do a great job, a real asset to the area. Felt very catered to as a veggie too.

Went to Base in December 2023 for the festive feast and it was delicious; I really enjoyed all the dishes. The staff were very friendly as usual - overall, a great experience. This is my favourite restaurant in Ulverston.

Loved our experience at Base. A joy to spend relaxed time over wonderful, exciting, delicious food - the lamb especially was out of this world. I love this restaurant, it’s really a favorite for me ! Last week, during a business trip, I had the chance to dine at this establishment and it was a memorable culinary experience. The dishes were not only delicious but also artistically presented, a true feast for the senses. The staff were welcoming and attentive, contributing to a warm and friendly atmosphere. Went for a nice walk around Ulverston and stumbled upon this spot. Absolutely could not fault this place one bit. Served some of the nicest food i’ve had for a long time.

Lunchtime visit was a very pleasurable experience. Crispy squid small plate and a ham hock terrine with rosemary salted fries, homemade chutney, soft poached eggs and a tossed salad were highlights. The flatbreads were also reportedly excellent.

We booked Base for our wedding celebration and I'm so glad we did. There were 40 of us eating and we selected a 4 course meal which was absolutely divine. The food was served promptly and tasted delicious. You could tell a lot of time and effort went into the meal and the event as a whole. The meal surpassed our expectations and all our guests commented on how nice the food was over the following week.
We are looking forward to planning a return visit with just my husband and I!

A celebratory lunch out following the birth of our second daughter. Base offers a welcoming and comfortable setting for lunch. The food was incredible, we had king prawns & squid to start, Both excellent dishes. For mains we had mussels and steak, again both excellent and cooked beautifully. They also have a lovely range of drinks and nice coffee. We are already excited to head back for another meal.
