The ability to network is a very important skill for any business person and its one that takes time, effort and even skill to learn. For some people it comes very easily and for others it can be the most intimidating experience in the world. But its an accomplishment we all need to master, how else will you meet the clients and contacts that are necessary to grow your business? Many people are put off by the idea of networking thinking it requires a person to be phoney, with a superficial personality that oozes insincerity.......from my own experience I know nothing could be further from the truth!
Many people here in Barnstaple (myself included) contend that business networking is a more cost-effective method of generating new business than any advertising or public relations efforts they might undertake. This is because business networking is a low-cost activity that involves more personal commitment than any money you might allocate to marketing. And it's effective because the people who you meet with, week in week out ARE genuine, ready and willing to help and be a good friend as well.
In February many of us will be heading out on the golf course, yes boys and girls, to have an enjoyable time on the fairway, no doubt talking business (and possibly not) and making those connections even stronger.
