As we have been fortunate enough to have an Indian summer, there are still some late blooms around, but also the warmer weather is perfect for tinkering in the garden and getting a few last jobs completed before the frost kicks in.

Our top September/October jobs include:

  • Collecting seeds or cuttings from mature plants so they are ready for you to plant at the beginning of next year. If you have a collection of plants that you adore, this is a cost effective way to keep the colour and fragrance you love in your garden year after year.
  • Is your shed looking a little shabby?  Time for an autumn clean inside and out!  A fresh lick of paint with a protective outdoor paint will keep it weather-tight and some new shelves and an organiser inside will help you through – Don't they say tidy shed, tidy mind?
  • Bulbs in – If you love crocus's, daffodils and all manner of spring blooms get those hardy bulbs in now.  The sooner they appear, the sooner you will feel brighter after a chilly winter.
  • Add some colour in for the winter.  Pansies, Michaelmas Daisies and Verbena plants brings in tones of purple and pink, whilst ornamental grasses bring gentle movement and texture to borders.
  • It is definitely the time to keep your lawns trim. Maintaining the lawn area is important now, especially when the autumn leaves start to fall.  It's also the ideal time to plant a new lawn from seed.

So, however big your outdoor space is make sure its blooming beautiful now and all winter through.
