Trelawney@Ashford near Barnstaple is inviting schools in the area to enter the scare-crow contest.

Caroline Howell-Williams, General Manager of the garden centre, explained: said: “We’re challenging schools to get creative and make a scarecrow to be in with a chance of winning a £25 voucher to spend at the garden centre. Second place will be awarded with a £15 voucher and the third place prize is a £10 voucher."

the organisers are encouraging entrants to create themed scarecrows or celebrity doppelgängers, although traditional scarecrows are just as welcome. All of the entries will go on display in the garden centre throughout the summer holidays.

The final entries will need to be taken to the garden centre by 5pm on Tuesday, July 22 and the judging panel will judge all of the entries on Friday, July 25. Winners will be announced shortly afterwards.
