Safety tips for your Bonfire and Fireworks in Cambridge

Bonfire Night is a night of family fun, but it is also the time when there are many accidents due to lack of safety and responsible use of fireworks.

At thebestof Cambridge we want you to have fun, but we would also like you to keep yourself and your family safe by following these rules:

Sparklers

  • Don’t give sparklers to children under 5 years
  • When handling sparklers wear gloves, leather one’s are best
  • Don’t allow children to light sparklers
  • When lighting sparklers, hold it at arms distance
  • Keep sparklers away from faces and use in clear spaces
  • When your sparkler is finished, place it in water or sand 

Fireworks

  • Read the instructions before lighting fireworks
  • Light one firework at a time and keep the others in a box
  • Light fireworks at arm’s length with a taper and stand well back
  • Keep cigarettes and naked flames away
  • Once the firework has been lit, don’t go back to it
  • Aim rockets away from spectators
  • Don’t put fireworks in pockets
  • Never go near lit fireworks
  • Don’t let children near fireworks 

Bonfire Safety

  • Ensure bonfires is well away from houses, garages, sheds, trees and fences
  • Don’t use petrol or paraffin to light your bonfire
  • Before lighting a bonfire check animals and children are well away
  • Make certain the fire is out before leaving
  • Keep a bucket of water handy in case the fire gets out of control, call the fire brigade if this happens
