Woodside Dental Practice in Wimbledon has recently been recognised by the British Dental Association (BDA) as committed to good practice and has joined its Good Practice Scheme – a highly prestigious achievement – and unveiled the award at an evening function attended by the Deputy Mayor of Merton, Cllr John Sergeant, Dr Frank Holloway, who until earlier this year was the President of the British Dental Association, several distinguished guests and, of course, all the staff at the practice.

This award is no mean feat – there are only 1,800 dental practices across the UK to have achieved this status, and only 60 in the Greater London Area, and means that the practice meets nationally recognised standards in order to provide the best possible care for its patients.

For the last 12 months, the team at Woodside Dental Practice has been working hard to comply with the requirements of the Scheme – over 120 of them. “It has been quite a lot of hard work”, said Makswood (Max) Rahman, the practice owner, “but everyone has found it worthwhile and we really do feel that we have improved our service to patients”.

Max went on to say “We involve all our patients in their treatment right from the start. We discuss the options available and give them all the information they need to decide which is best for them. We make sure that there are no surprises”. Patient waiting times are kept to a minimum and every effort is made to make appointments that are convenient to the patient.

The engraving on the award plaque boldly states that:

“Our practice is a member of the British Dental Association’s Good Practice Scheme.

This means that we are committed to a standard of good practice set by our professional association.”

And that description is very aptly put as the BDA Good Practice Scheme is UK dentistry's leading quality assurance programme and by becoming members of the Scheme, a practice must demonstrate a visible commitment to providing quality dental care to nationally recognised standards.

In his address Dr Frank Holloway stressed the importance of this award, saying “The only way to achieve this recognition is for the practice to clearly demonstrate that things are done the right way and to show that the highest quality in standards of care and treatment is the top priority.”

The ceremonial ribbon was cut by Deputy Mayor of Merton, Cllr John Sergeant who stressed that this award was a proud moment for everyone involved in the practice, saying “This award has taken a lot of effort by a lot of people. It has required total dedication on the part of the staff – without any compromise. And the practice Principal and all the staff have created the right experience for their patients, providing the best possible healthcare for their customers.

Mr Chris Richfield, a patient of the practice said that he had been coming to the practice for a number of years and always found the service provided was excellent. “It’s reassuring that the practice can show they provide a good service and that the BDA has recognised their efforts”, he said.
