Very friendly staff and good cafe with plenty of choice. Lovely courtyard to sit and take in the view. Activities for children (dress up like a Roman) and plenty of local fossils!

Went in half term and was very busy with families which was great to see but made viewing difficult for non family visit.

A great day out, lots to see and do.
Always visit for half term activities which are always very well thought out and fun for the little ones, always very popular though, can be very busy! Cafe was full this time so had to eat elsewhere.
The gift shop layout is somewhat awkward running alongside the tills, busy area, every time i visit i can never browse with the amount of people hanging around in the area, queueing etc.

I visited Taunton Museum today with my Daughter, and Grandson. After our walk around we went to the cafe for some lunch.A lovely young lady served us called Daisy, she was very helpful, and polite, and promoted customer satisfaction, which makes such a difference to have that attention. Thankyou Daisy you were the cherry on the cake.

Good museum, with a set path like structure and more information than my school library! Fun to look out the high window on the second floor and traumatise yourself! 😅🤣

The Museum of Somerset, located within the historic Taunton Castle, offers a captivating journey through the county's rich heritage. The museum's diverse exhibits, ranging from archaeological finds to art collections, provide a comprehensive overview of Somerset's history.

A highlight of the museum is the Somerset Military Museum, which chronicles the stories of the county's regiments in both war and peace. The exhibits are thoughtfully arranged, offering insights into the military history that has shaped the region.

Admission to the museum is free, with a suggested donation of £5. This approach makes the museum accessible to all while encouraging support for its maintenance and development. There are paypoints at various locations inside and, while nobody hassles you to donate, it really is worth it.

The museum also hosts regularly changing exhibitions and activities, including family drop-in sessions and talks with curators or special guests. Special events, such as evening talks, music performances, and outdoor theatre, are also part of the museum's offerings. There is a wonderful courtyard and cafe to boot.

In summary, the Museum of Somerset is a must-visit destination for anyone interested in exploring the rich tapestry of Somerset's past. Its engaging exhibits, historic setting, and welcoming atmosphere make it a standout attraction in the region. Next time you're in the area, regardless the season, do pop round - you'll regret it if you didn't.

I had no pre-conceptions as I knew nothing about the museum before visiting. From the outset I was very impressed starting with welcome from I assume one of the volunteers. The museum exhibits themselves were excellent and much more varied and of a higher quality than might be expected from s small museum.
I thoroughly recommend visiting the Museum of Somerset. It's free but a £5 donation is requested.
