An historic building in Taunton, convenient to parkland, car park and shops.
The museum is modern, bright and airy, brings to life the history of Somerset. Discover many relics and objects, interesting for adults and children alike.
The staff are approachable, informative and welcoming.
There is a cafe and gift shop.
I would go back again.

A great museum and free to see! Though they do ask for a donation, but it's not mandatory.

It was a great experience with a colouring area and dress up which the daughter loved.

If you are interested in a bit of history of Somerset then you can learn lots by walking round this museum and taking it all in.

First time in Taunton and visited on a wet winters day. No queue and pretty quiet, we had a leisurely wander around. The museum is a gold mine of information about the history of the local area. Set inside a lovely castle it's well laid out and very welcoming. We had an interesting conversation with a guide about the coin hoards that have been discovered and also some of the jewellery found. We spent 2 to 3 hours at the site, and were pleased to have found it

A must visit if in the area!

We made an impromptu stop at Taunton on our drive back home from North Devon for a spot of lunch and decided to pop in with our children. Museum itself is housed in a castle and very well maintained, with a picturesque courtyard and cafe. As soon as we entered, we were welcomed so kindly by the guides. The exhibitions were very well curated and children were fascinated (dinosaur skeleton, Roman mosaic, horde of coins etc).

There was also an art exhibition of a local artist which was worth visiting - wood cuts, paintings and metal sculptures.

This is a great museum, suggested donation to enter, (which is nice if you are strapped), and had something for everyone. There are fossilized dinosaurs, Roman mosaics and coins, medieval artifacts, and a sweet cafe in a beautiful courtyard.

We visited for the Sci Fi Saturday event which tied in with a Dr Who temporary exhibition and had a great time! A fascinating museum with plenty of great displays on the history of the Somerset area. The museum is very child friendly with accessible displays and children's activities.
