Beautiful house and gardens. We've been twice and haven't discovered all of the gardens yet. The restaurant is lovely, the food is yummy. And we enjoyed the art installations in the house

We visited with my mum, who needs to use a wheelchair. Their map shows a series of paths that are clearly labelled as wheelchair accessible, approximately 40% of the total. Many of these were, however, steep, poorly surfaced and very bumpy. We gave up on some of these and stuck to the mostly level sections. This meant losing about half of the allegedly accessible sections. We could see the famous Edwardian gardens and managed to get in the cafe and ground floor of the house, but beware of bringing a wheelchair here to follow all the payhs on the map unless you have the strength of Hercules and the occupant doesn't mind being bumped around a bit. The gardens are lovely, even in October, and the cafe was excellent.

Hestercombe is a great day out for people of all ages. We went with my mum who has a mobility scooter and it was ideal. The gardens are well kept and look beautiful. Particularly like the section at the top with the stunning views over the local area.
One draw back, we were very underwhelmed by the quality of the coffee and cake in the cafe. Maybe bring a flask instead.

The house is dull...but the gardens are beautiful...the cafe isn't cheap but is still a nice place to eat and relax

My wife, my dog and myself came to Hestercombe for the third year running albeit a week or two later than usual. We were not expecting to see rows of floral beds in full bloom and were not disappointed. What we did see was a formal garden in its transition from one season to the next. The upper level was full of regimental winter flowering plants and not a weed in sight. The lower garden had begun to turn but this was to be expected. I don't like wandering around gardens but I have to say that Hestercombe is slowly changing my mind.
The walk through the grounds and visiting the numerous follies on the way is a good place to stretch your legs and exercise the dog (dog poo bins available). Our dog is now a little too old to manage the whole route so we stayed to the lower levels today. The cafe too is very reasonably priced and has a good friendly atmosphere created by the staff.

I’m a regular visitor to Hestercombe. The gardens are stunning & so peaceful to walk around. I’ve got a membership so I can visit all year round for free.
Well behaved dogs on leads are very welcome.

This weekend I visited when the Taunton Toad sculptures were being auctioned off for charity. It was great seeing them all in one place.

Main attraction is Lutyens/Jekyll designed terraced gardens brought back to near original designs but the 18th century landscaping in the valley is a tour de force of reconstruction with attractions like 'gothic' Alcove, witches hut and Sibyl's Temple constructed near to original appearance. They all look very new at the moment but will probably weather well. Cascade (largest in Somerset) was not working when we visited due to lack of rainfall but the situation was impressive. Many interesting features explained in videos. Orangery available for weddings with large lawn sharing the great views over Taunton vale.

Our family loves to visit here - whether it's for coffee or a tasty lunch, a quiet visit to the formal gardens or exploring the rest of the grounds with the grand children. There's something for everyone.

Gardens beautiful, staff lovely.... shame about the house. Could make so much more of it. Art gallery is mainly some photography of one artist and a small installation piece with little explanation... box covers in need of dusting... shouldn't cost £12.50 presently, too expensive for what it offers

This is a must for anyone loving Gardens,woodland walks and exploring.Used regularly by locals for dog walking.
