We just had a wonderful meal at The Crown. As always food was excellent, the ambience was perfect and the staff 5* . Can’t wait for our next ordinary special dinner.

Over the last 3 days I have visited The Crown twice for lunch and once for an evening meal. On every occasion the staff were attentive, knowledgeable and keen to please. I tried various choices from the menu and all without exception were outstanding quality, there is clearly a vary talented team in the kitchen. The vegan in our party rated the Tofu Katsu Curry as the best she had ever been served! Thank you.

Went on an evening with eight family. Dreadful service - had to wait 35 minutes for three drinks and when we asked about them they were on the bar waiting!! Waiting for the waitress!! Desserts ages arriving and the pot of tea never came at all. Food ok but not as good as in the past I feel - a shame as we have eaten there for years.

Huge beer garden with children's climbing frame and stream at the end of the garden. Great food and beer on offer. Ample parking.

My wife and I had a nice evening meal here whilst visiting the area. The service was excellent and the setting very pleasant. The food was very good with the exception of the parsley root which was inedible but was quickly swapped for carrots. Not the cheapest place but well worth a visit.

We chose this pub for lunch. Very nice for the middle of nowhere. 11 people Inc children. Big garden with play area and room to play football if you take one. Outdoor decked area for food too. We had a variety of meals, some had just starters some toasted sandwiches and others mains. All really nice and they had a gf menu too. The bill was under £100 So not badly priced either. Very nice server and good atmosphere

We just love this place! Our Airbnb host recommended this pub to us and we were pleasantly surprised. Not only is it situated in a beautiful little village the food is great! I would recommend the very flavoursome lamb kofte for starters. The food is of high quality and the service is friendly and fast. We sat in the garden which is dog and kid friendly. Would recommend this place for anyone!

Lovely setting, large garden and play area for the kids, expensive and spoilt by one rude member of staff.

Thank you The Crown for a lovely Sunday lunch complete with a candle in my pudding.

The food was delicious, the service couldn’t be faulted and the setting spot on.

Great pub in a gem of a village. Quality all round..., location, pub, beer (own microbrewery, not on these premises), food and staff.

We enjoyed our relaxed Sunday lunch here today !
Good, efficient service ..not over the top resulted in beautiful fresh bread arriving at our table along drinks and olives. Our mains meals were very tasty and plentiful and well cooked vegetables served separately...always better than “ plonked “ on your plate .
Good atmosphere ...will most probably revisit .

Came here for Sunday roast with my boyfriend and was not disappointed. The starters were tasty and a good size portion. The roast beef was delicious. I struggled to eat all of it as there was a lot. We managed a dessert too which rounded off the meal nicely. Great service in a nice country pub.

Food not its usual standard. Waitresses not interested and seemed inexperienced. We’re going to order dessert but gave up waiting. Have eaten here many times before but this visit has put us off from coming back!

Excellent food, great service and a beautiful setting. There was plenty of choice for adults and children. We were allowed to eat a leisurely lunch in a comfortable room. Easy to book a table.

Great location very old building, although a bit 'greyified' inside now, not really very sympathetic to period. Food is good, with rather small portions baring in mind the rather expensive menu which at this price level should be more extensive.

Last minute booking for this restaurant as we found ourselves in the area last night. Telephone booking handled courteously and efficient. The Crown is a beautiful old building,it will be nice to visit again in daylight hours to see the setting. There was a lovely ambience,a relaxing feel helped with an open fire!
Good choice of courses on menu with some additional starters, very good wine list with reasonable prices, I like the carafe idea! The waitresses were young, enthusiastic and clearly enjoyed their work. We had some fresh bread which was warm and delicious and came in a brown paper bag which when opened the smell was devine ! Started of smoked salmon with dill dressing and soda bread - delicious good quality salmon, also a Scotch egg which my husband said was excellent.
8oz Rib eye steak and steak burger for mains were cooked perfectly. Malted milk ice cream brought warming childhood memories of Horlicks at bedtime! Fantastic to have a decent dessert wine on the menu which was very good and fairly priced.Overall a definite 5 stars across the board, the management should be proud of their staff for making this establishment 1st Class.
I would highly recommend The Crown, we shall definitely return, especially as we found a gem of a place to stay not too far away from the restaurant.Thank you again and well done! X

First visit here for a quick lunch after going on a local walk around Hartest, Shimpling and Chadacre. Left the dog in the car as he was too dirty and muddy but understand the pub is dog friendly which is always a bonus.
Welcome was great and staff were really friendly insisting on showing us to a table after our drinks were ordered at the bar.We just went for the soup and a sandwich (£7.50) and these were really tasty and nicely presented (would recommend the toasted cheese and tomato).Service at the table was great and seeing the meals served to the other tables around us made us want to come again to try some more.
As a previous reviewer has commented, the pub is part of the Brewshed chain, but don't let this put you off from what I was told this is a local family business with a small number of other places mainly in Bury St Edmunds and from what I can see they are doing a great job! Plus they have their own microbrewery and the best bitter I tried was good stuff.Lovely big beer garden with tables at the rear of the pub which looks as if it would be great in the summer time too so definitely one for our return to again list.

Came here with my wife and enjoyed the rustic country charm of this pub. The food was very good and catered for my wife being vegetarian with some of the tastiest food she has had in a while. We both enjoyed squid to start which was cooked to perfection with a red pepper ketchup and I then had pork loin which was delicious and my wife had a Moroccan vegetarian pie.
We will definitely be coming back and it is good quality and good value.

Very friendly and also good to go to the Crown. Any day is a Crown day!
Service is good and menu varied. In summer the park at the back is wonderful and backs on to the stream where our boys have caught wild crayfish whilst waiting for lunch or dinner.

The menu changes, but the Wednesday pies are superb!!
More seriously, the Crown is now part of a chain, which always makes me wary, but as far as the food goes, there has been no need. I'm not going to go through various dishes, but I've never had anything tat has been less than a nice surprise...ok I'll mention three; the Wednesday lunch beef pies.....quite simply one of the best, if not the best, I've had. Venison on garlic mash with kale...and I don't even like kale, but I ate all of this and the venison (I think it may have been muntjac?) was wonderfully pink and succulent. Muntjac is one of the best of meats.........Homemade cinnamon doughnuts with apple puree and toffee sauce....as delicious as it reads.
The staff have always been so pleasant and knowledgeable about the menu. Love it. Not cheap, indeed, a little pricey.....but love it when I can afford it!
(have eaten there several times, lunch and dinner)
