We were taken here by friends . The food was lovely especially the fish and chips. I changed my chunky fries to skinny fries and it was no problem for the staff who were very friendly and accommodating . The pub has a lovely garden which baby Rhys loved . My only negative would be I'm not a fan of salt and pepper etc in sachets . Looking forward to returning for more fish and chips 👍🏻

Took my wife for a birthday lunch. Great food, lovely staff. But...the music was a catastrophe. 50's rock 'n roll assaulted us to the point of desperation. On a Friday lunchtime! By the time we left we felt All Shook Up. Not a total Heartbreak Hotel but we left with the Summertime Blues. As Fats Domino said 'Ain't that a shame'.

I wanted an old village pub with an intimate atmosphere and this establishment hit the spot.
Having pre booked we were warmly welcomed as we entered the pub. We were taken to our table by the waitress who asked if we would like a complimentary carafe of water as we were left to study the menu. The food was ordered and delivered in good time. It was excellent and well presented.
We were not rushed and were able to take in the atmosphere of this old country pub. The restaurant was decorated to retain the ambiance and intimacy of a pub with age and character. The staff were attentive without being overpowering and any questions we had were answered confidently.

Treated my elderly parents and children to a meal out after visiting a tourist attraction in the area. Despite it being the Hartest annual Fete and consequently extremely busy, we all had an excellent meal. Will definitely book again next time I visit my folks.

We made our annual visit to Hartest Fete but instead of taking our usual picnic we booked at the Crown for our lunch as it was our wedding anniversary. The pub was its usual vibrant self and we were shown to our table inside rather than the garden which was equally busy. We chose from the specials list, I chose Sardines, my wife Scotch Egg with Blythburgh Pork, my Sardines were every bit as good as Spanish fare, a good 6 inches long, very meaty and served on toast, fantastic!. My wifes Scotch egg was freshly made and warm with a runny egg in the middle, really lovely.
We both chose Salmon as a main with potatoes, green beans and Hollandaise sauce, it was beautifully cooked, flaky Salmon crispy skin, lovely, all washed down with a Chilean Sauvignon Blanc. One of the best meals out at lunch time for ages.

A great place to eat outside on a sunny day with children able to run around the large grassed area and on the play equipment, climb the trees and look at the stream. The food is better than pub grub, and the hot chocolate where you mix in the chocolate shavings yourself goes down a treat with the children.
The peanut butter dessert was scrummy.

We were lucky to come across The Crown when stopping for lunch when travelling home from holiday. Great food, great beer from the owner's brew house in Bury St Edmunds and friendly well trained staff. Well done to all, the perfect pub!

Lovely village location - keep an eye out for the blackboard on the green (!) - and we enjoyed a stroll around before heading inside. Not very busy on a Tuesday evening but that's not massively surprising.
We chose the pub because it was dog friendly (the only one of this small group of pubs which is) and ate in the dog-friendly section of their restaurant - a nice touch. Both bar staff were very friendly and went out of their way to chat to us and also make a fuss of our dog.
The food was very good - burger for me, lamb fillet and couscous for my wife who was extremely pleased! Great bottle of relatively inexpensive wine (for a pub/restaurant - £18) too - a red Zinfandel from Italy.
All in all a great find for our holiday in Suffolk, just wish their other places would accept dogs!!

Traditional English pub. We arrived just before they closed the kitchen in the afternoon. Staff were very accommodating though and still allowed us to order our soup and sandwich combos. Good food and great ambiance.

This is an attractive food pub in a lovely village location.
All clean and tidy with a huge garden to sit or play with the little ones.As it was our second visit since this pub became part of the One Bull group in Bury St Edmunds it was making 1 suggestion to the management I think.
Again I found my main course and desert very disappointing and overpriced. My caesar salad and lemon sponge were not at all special.
The staff were helpful so a big plus to them. Before you order look is see what is going to the tables near you!

Fantastic food with excellent service. Lovely old building with a great atmosphere. There is a lovely garden which we will be visiting regularly in the summer, for more family meals.

Lovely pub and weather sadly on this occasion wasn't matched by very slow service and to be honest average food.
I think there must have been staffing problems as after sitting down for 15mins we had to ask at the bar for menus and then find a waiter to take our order another 20 minutes later..the pub wasn't particularly busy. The food was ok and slow arriving. On the plus side excellent wine, beer and garden and hoping for better next time we return!

We went at lunch time on the way to Gifford's Hall vineyard. The menu has lots of choice and is definitely a cut above pub grub. There is lots of outside space for summer and the food and service are good. Certainly worth trying.

We enjoyed a family meal for eight people on a Friday evening. We chose The Crown having eaten several times at the sister pubs in Bury St Edmunds and been impressed on each occasion.
Within our party were two very young children and we were welcomed with highchairs provided. The waitresses were excellent- very welcoming and friendly, and service was quick. They paid special attention to the children, and helped make the whole occasion relaxing and enjoyable.
The food generally was very good, with a varied menu to suit all ages. Everything was prepared and presented well. The weather was dry which allowed the children to enjoy the superb wooden play equipment while the adults sat outside at the picnic tables.
All in all, a very enjoyable evening, made extra special by the friendly staff, and we will definitely return.

We have visited this lovely pub restaurant twice recently, once as a couple for a quiet meal and once with family. Food is lovely and the staff are fantastic, very attentive and friendly. Our second visit coincided with the beer festival which was greatly enjoyed. I am sure we will be visiting The Crown many times in the future, well done and thank you.

I have eaten here twice now & have enjoyed the evening very must, its a shame the locals don't seem to go in very often they don't know why they are missing. My only comment was the desert i chose the tasters which i found very disappointing choices need to be lighter desserts to many what i call heavy desserts.

We visited the Crown whilst on holiday in Suffolk with some great friends of ours . We had dined at the Crown several years ago and was looking forward to this occasion. Good selection of ales including two from a micro brewery. I thought that the food menu was very limited. The menu is not for those whom are not adventurouls. The food was nicely presented and cooked .we did though have to ask about missing items from one of the meals Broad beans was one of the vegetables listed with the meal these were missing. When pointed out a small bowl of peas where brought to the table. Did not complain about this has other people in the party's meals where going cold. The portions are small if you don't have the three course. I class myself has an average size meal portion eater I needed the three courses, or i have the need to order extras whilst, in most restaurants I only have two.

We recently visited the Crown for a late afternoon Sunday Lunch and as usual it didn't disappoint. The food was delicious, the setting is beautiful with a large garden and play area for my two very active young children. The atmosphere inside the pub is always relaxed and although they accommodate children fantastically it also feels like a sophisticated place to dine, unlike other you might choose because they are suitable for the children. Staff were friendly and attentive. Although The Crown is a little bit of a drive from our house it is always well worth it!

We were staying at a local B&B who suggested here for dinner. It was an excellent recommendation.
The location and building are charming. The welcome we received was very good and absolutely nothing was too much trouble. Lucy, the Assistant Manager, made sure that we got exactly what we wanted. She is an absolute asset to The Crown.

Nice service and pub was immaculate inside and out. Great garden with wooden play structure for families with kids. My only observation would be to make the pudding menu more traditional and less ott. Give me sensible pie and custard anyday! Great cheese ploughmans with awesome pickles - just a tad light on the cheese tho.The place is immaculate. Spotlessly clean and tidy.
