Great food, great for the family with a large play area and open space for children to not be a nuisance whilst running around. Nice walks leading off the pub

Shared the cheese platter with the other half, it was lovely, surprisingly accompanied by some freshly baked bread which stole the show! If you're not into cheese the onion rings are also amazing!! Brilliant value, service and food, triple thumbs up!!

Absolutely Brilliant!
Shared the cheese platter and onion rings with the other half, was delicious and surprisingly came with some stunning freshly baked bread too! The bread certainly overshadowed the biscuits but the cheese selection was lovely!
The onion rings were the best I've ever had... Perhaps I've lead a sheltered life but they were!!
Sharing platter was £14 and the onion rings were £3, exceptionally good value!!

We haven’t been to The Crown for many years, but had heard some good reports so thought would re-visit. There were 6 of us. We had a good welcome and there was a handy space so I could stay in wheelchair which is easier. Still and sparkling water was immediately placed on the table. No pushing to buy alcohol straight away. It was such a hot day so this was very welcome and a few of us couldn’t have a drink because of driving. 4 ordered fish and chips, one had Suffolk ham which looked a very generous portion and one had a vegetable tagine. There was quite a wide choice.
Desserts were very popular. I had chocolate brownie which was excellent and others had panna cotta and a ginger cream dessert and ice creams. There was no sense of pressure to leave. Easy parking and flat access. Excellent for disabled access. You can also sit outside if you wish.

We took a party of 30 to the Crown and I cannot fault the food or service. We had pre-ordered and everything was served quickly and correctly. The service was efficient and friendly. They even accommodated a diabetic and a garlic hater! Lots of happy diners. Will return soon.

A wonderful night at the Crown, greeted by the Team and shown to the table.
Great service, discreet but attentive, with the specials showing an exquisite understanding of the seasons bounty.

Perfect!

From the moment we arrived the staff could not have been more helpful. Despite being a busy day for kitchen service our food was prompt, hot and tasty. Great selection of beers and wines. Will definitely visit again.

I visited here recently with some family. Right from the start I noticed issues. The barmaid just gestured to our table and we had to find our own menu’s. I asked for a wine list but none came so had to remind. Then I had to chase to order the wine. Then food arrived and I had to chase for the wine as it hadn’t arrived. I asked the waitress to put the carafe in the fridge as it was a bit warm then I had to ask her for more when my glass was empty.
The staff knew no details about the menu. WHY? Are they not shown the food so they can speak knowledgeably? My father ordered a rib eye steak and it had to be sent back as it was 90% gristle. We asked the chef to come out and explain why he thought it was ok to serve this but he wouldn’t. They made my father a burger replacement which was ok.
My fish cakes were ok. Pretty average. But the thing that The Crown needs to work on is the service. The staff seem young and inexperienced and just don’t care. Dreadful front of house is letting the whole place down. Sort it out because until you do, we won’t be back!

Visited by chance as we haven't been for a while and just fancied some different fare from the usual pub grub. Menu looked enticing with lots of nice options - steaks, fish as well as the usual staples like burgers etc.
The Crown is as lovely as ever with a beautiful, long garden.
There only seemed to be two staff front of house who both appeared very busy. In fact, we felt for them as they seemed run off their feet. Service was slow and whilst we were seated quickly we were not offered refills of drinks (so we gave up as there seemed to be a queue at the bar and we didn't want our food to go cold). Items like cutlery, sauce accompaniments seemed to take an age to arrive too and people around us were clearly disgruntled. We were patient as didn't feel the staffing was the staff's fault and there didn't appear to be a manager on duty.
The food though was disappointing too. There seemed to be a taste of horrible oil on the chips etc....which all appeared reheated....and certainly were not very nice. So we left after we'd eaten and while I think we will probably give it another go will be somewhat more hesitant next time.
I hope too, that the management invest in more staff. On a summer's evening two people to run a pub with a busy garden seems a recipe for complaints.

Loved this house it was clean comfortable and cosy, we had 3 dogs with us. Its in Hartest. Places around about to visit. Flatford where Constable painted and grew up. Clare where Richard the Lionhearts mother was sent by her husband Henry when he was fed upwith her. Sutton Hoo where there is a anglo saxon burial ground which eas excavated in 1939. Beautiful cottage and great places to visit

Beautiful Cottage in Hartest Village. People in Village as hospitable and very friendly. Having a fantastic holiday thanks to Mr Howard letting us rent his house. Will be coming back for years to come.

Visited during the week at lunch time, sat out in the huge garden and ate which was nice. Interior of pub is lovely. Very, very slow service, only 1 person behind bar and average wait on a pretty quiet day was 5+ minutes. Food pricey for what it was, but it was ok.

We went here for lunch on a sunny Saturday and found it absolutely fabulous! Although the food seemed a little pricey, when it came out it was clear that it was worth the money as the quality was fantastic. The garden was lovely to sit in, and the staff were very friendly! I would recommend this to anyone in the area.
