I really enjoyed my visit here. It doesn't matter if you are on your own because there are daily papers you can sit and read and once you have placed your order you can sit and wait for it to be delivered. Perfectly clean and tidy as were the toilet facilities.
Nice to go somewhere which I don't think is part of a chain.

we always have lunch here when we visit. The food is excellent from a limited menu. The owner is very friendly a knowledgable about wine and cheese and the bistro/cafe reflects this. Nice place and atmosphere. Also sells cheese and wine - got a wonderful bargain of excellent cheddar.

We enjoyed a most delightful evening with exceptionally kind and friendly service and absolutely perfect food. The limited menu (thank goodness!) was thoughtfully put together and cooked by David who obviously cares passionately and knowledgeably about fine food and wine. The portions were appropriate - not hugely over facing so we enjoyed three courses, including a personal cheese board chosen especially for us. The service from Trish was warm and friendly. We shall definitely visit again....and again. Thank you.

We visited twice recently and found the staff and host most hospitable, even after suffering an overnight flood in one of the rooms!
Great coffee, pastries and croissants and really tasty damson jam.Good size tables for lingering over and even Sunday Papers to share.
Well done David and your staff.

In recent weeks we have had several experiences in which we have gone to cafes for a quiet drink only to have the experience diminished, if not ruined by a wall of noise. With that in mind, we made it a conscience choice to set out for David's in Sudbury. We had read positive things about David's in the reviews and the ethos found in the restaurant's own website. It was well worth the journey, as it proved to be an "oasis of calm."
We were given a friendly welcome and the service remained a positive throughout our visit. The teas on offer were really high quality, and the baked goods were lovely. The cheese board was generous in portion size, and very flavourful cheeses in a nicely chosen variety and textures. The Italian salad was nice, and the quality of the olive oil was noticeable.
It was a relaxing, good quality lunch, and we look forward to visiting again.

As always, wonderful! Interesting comment in the last review about it being more like a private club!Perhaps it may seem like that to strangers, as there are so many loyal customers that have become regulars and made friends here. What better recommendation can you get than that! A testament to David and his teams friendly and caring service. Thank you.

My wife and I visited for coffe and cake. We found the coffee very tasty and the cakes were fine but we felt slightly like intruders to an exclusive club.

We have used David's on a number of occasions and find it a really pleasant and welcoming place for a coffee and an occasional slice of cake (oh alright then, a more than occasional slice of cake!).
A most pleasant place to while away an hour reading the newspaper (which is provided) and watching the world go by.

What a delight to take coffee or a light lunch in such comfort. You can stay as long or short a time as you wish reading the newspapers and relaxing. David and his staff encourage you to do this and will not hurry you out. This is also one of the few places that offer an all day breakfast unlike other establishments that stop serving breakfast at 11.30am. We hope you enjoy it as much as we did!

First visit to Sudbury and my husband and I popped in for coffee and cake. How lovely to be greeted with a cheery "hello" and a wave when we entered. Great coffee and a good selection of yummy cakes, but the best thing was the welcoming atmosphere. I don't often write reviews, but good customer service is so rare nowadays that I just wanted to say how impressed we were. Thank you!

Gorgeous coffee. Love the food - light lunches
Also the croissants are soooo good A real treat to visit, because you can be on your own and read a magazine and not feel "odd". Very relaxed atmosphere

We popped in to this restaurant for coffee and cake and were pleasantly surprised by the cleanliness and the ambient atmosphere. The coffee was excellent quality and the seating was comfortable. This really is a grown ups retreat from the hustle and bustle of the high street. The service was attentive and newspapers to suit all tastes are available to read. Nice touch!

Sudbury has a lot of cafes for a small market town. However, this is individual and everything is of good quality. The almond pastries are to die for. This cafe opens on some evenings (join the email list to find out when these are) for Steak Nights and Tapas with live music. These are very enjoyable and the standard of cooking is top notch.

We were attracted by the no-under-15s rule in place here. The joys of no pesky children creating noise and mayhem.
It was also a very good place to stop for lunch. The light offerings are a sensible size (an omelette with salad and a single fish cake with a small portion of chips) and quite delicious; the fish cake was simply the best I have ever eaten except for those made at home. Pieces of smoke haddock (and not the died yellow variety) with pieces of prawn.
If I had one criticism it is that the service was a bit slow, given the number of waiting staff available for the number of tables.

Always a delight to come to Davids and nothing is too much trouble. After experiencing some less than great service in other Sudbury cafes it is nice to be on the recieving end of friendly and polite customer service with a personal touch. The coffee is amazing and the soup was excellent and full of flavour.

A lovely, friendly and civilised cafe. Excellent coffee and delicious food. And you can have a glass of wine there, if you fancy one.

Do not visit Sudbury very often but when I do make a point of going to David's for breakfast and excellent coffee. Very spacious, clean and a large coffee menu. Children are not allowed in so the clientele is usually older relishing the peace and quiet. I would definitely recommend David's for good food and wonderful coffee.

We chose to come here for a coffee and lunch after reading other people's reviews. We would agree about the coffee - it was delicious. The reason we wouldn't return is our experience of indifferent service. After 15 minutes we had to see if we had been forgotten - we had! Unfortunately, we then waited another 15 minutes for our coffee and a further 15 minutes for our food. It wasn't that busy at the time - not all tables were taken, and even when food is freshly prepared, it shouldn't take 45 minutes to make scrambled egg. Very disappointing.

We popped in here before visiting Gainsborough's house, and had a good coffee and a Danish pastry. The service was lovely - friendly and very efficient. We returned for some soup at lunchtime, a bit salty but otherwise delicious.
