This cafe and deli (now renamed Cafe Continental) has the best flat-white coffee I have ever tasted and comes with a small biscuit too.
I would recommend the superb scrambled egg with smoked salmon, and the eggs Benedict is delicious.
If you prefer a sandwich the Cafe Continental make a superb Suffolk sandwich, the bread used is soft, fresh and tasty with carefully sourced ingredients’ of Suffolk ham, cheese and homemade chutney with a side garnish of potato crisps.
There are newspapers and books on the shelves also wifi.
The style of Cafe Continental is contemporary and welcoming, there is a rule of no children under 15, this allows for a quieter and calmer environment for adults
The sponge cakes on display are homemade, normally available are lemon, coffee and carrot, but they do sell out quickly

Popped in just for coffee which was very good. However the light lunches being served on other tables looked good so I tried a Suffolk ham omelette. Superbly cooked and presented it tasted delicious as well. They also have small range of pastries which are also very good. Will definitely be back.

Not being familiar with Sudbury we asked someone on the car park where a good place for a light lunch would be.
There was no hesitation. 'David's!'
Easily found and not far from Gainsboroughs house it looked inviting. A warm welcome from Fran,David's daughter, and we were seated near a bookcase with a selection of books that kept our interest while our order ws being prepared. Intriguingly there were two copies of Viscount Montgomery's biography on the shelf-why 2? I would have asked David but he was away on business elsewhere. In his absence Fran, Issie, and Kari looked after our needs with a refreshing cheerfulness and humour not always present these days.I had a delicious ham salad, suffolk Ham thinly sliced is just superb in a salad and they also serve it in a croissant if desired.
Mrs Tripper1941 selected the Buffalo Mozzarella on Ciabata and it came with a veritable army of tomatoes. As usual we did a bit of sharing . Glad we did really tasty. We had decided on a light lunch and we should have stopped there but we had a warmed Danish pastry between us with Segafredo coffee was too good to refuse.
Reasonably priced for the quality and despite the notice asking for a little understanding if the service is slow at busy times as all the food is freshly prepared we experienced no wait.
We are going back again to Sudbury and the sooner the better and one of the reasons will be yo visit Davids again, It will be worth it.

Excellent eggs benedict and italian salad,. Lovely atmosphere..The owner is a very nice man and a good host - I noticed he was attentive to older customers and their comfort and I liked that .

We ordered the italian salad and were not disappointed, great flavours. Quality ingredients and nice portion size for a light lunch. Pleasant service, nice atmosphere and I liked the decor and furniture. Bathrooms were clean and spacious. They open up the bar area on Friday and Saturday nights, I imagine this would be lovely. Can't wait to return. Davis and his team were friendly and great service.

We have passed this place many times but decided to pop in for a coffee whilst in town shopping and are glad we did.
Immediately we found that the venue was very homely and warming. The staff were very courteous and welcoming. We both had a coffee which was very nice and good value.
After this one visit we have made a decision to come here every time we come into town, it made that much of an impression on us.

I was looking for somewhere for lunch and come across David's. The menu was outside so you could decide if you wanted to eat or have a drink there.
Comfortable cafe, nicely decorated and books, newspapers and magazines to read were available.
Now to the food. I ordered scrambled eggs and pancetta on toast. The pancetta was fried on top. Local farm eggs used - they were a nice yellow colour. The pancetta bought out the flavour. It was delicious!
The staff were very good and tended to our wishes including more hot water for the teapot.
I would recommend this restaurant for a lighter option or just for coffee.
The cafe doesn't allow anybody under the age of 15 (states on the door), there are plenty of other places around that will be okay with children.
Nice little cafe for light bites and coffer. I think it's good value for money too. 😀

I love this place. David is very welcoming and his coffee is the best in town. ..particularly when served with a warm almond croissant! I'd highly recommend his cheese counter too.....another plus is the place is for adults so no children charging about

I called in on the off chance and had an excellent coffee.
A bit like the old Cheers bar. Everyone knows your name (nearly) for some genteel banter, leg pulling whilst David is metaphorically gently pulling his hair out whilst pulling your leg. A wonderful "comfortable" feel to what must now surely be a Sudbury institution. David - long may it last.

I have been here on several occasions and the food (especially the eggs benedict) is always of a high quality and really delicious. The mocha is the best around by a long shot. One thing I was slightly baffled by on my last visit was that they couldn't do sandwiches due to them running out of bread (even though they have a bakery opposite them!). However, this is easily rectified and I will continue visiting regularly!

Just tried David's new 'Italian Salad'. Vine ripe tomatoes, sweet red peppers, extra virgin olive oil, very special mozzarella, on oil drenched and toasted ciabatta, with the David twist! Thought I was back in Italy! Lovely!

A charming, small establishment that caters for adults only. Enjoy anything from a good coffee to a meal with good, friendly service.
A no-stress diner where they supply papers if you're on your own (books if you have the time).Well prepared food reasonably priced.
Has two rooms plus garden terrace. They have a great selection of cheeses for sale as well.

A friend recommended this lovely place on Gainsborough street so I did my research on trip adviser and was surprised I hadn't heard of it before. Well David was just so welcoming and said we could sit anywhere in the spacious, chic and very clean cafe. There are lots of appetising croissants, cakes and cheeses displayed along with the numerous choices of drinks to try and buy. I had a perfect latte and my friend a very aromatic decaf tea along with our prawn and avocado salads which were filling and refreshing. Can't wait to go back and try the ploughmans.

We had a small family wedding reception of 26, we had 2 vegans, a vegetarian and someone with an extreme onion allergy - all dealt with ease by David's, the food was delicious. In the evening we filled the place with further friends and family, tables were quietly reorganized etc. nothing was too much trouble. Friendly, efficient staff, would highly recommend. We had a perfect day.

A lovely deli almost hidden off the main High Street and nearly overshadowed by its bigger sister Wine Bar next door - but don't miss it.
Truly AMAZING coffee, easy surroundings and some of the nicest, freshest food - a lot of it locally produced - you'll find in the area.
Initially the 'no children' rule might seem a bit odd but, with plenty of other cafés around that do have room for children and buggies, etc. - you will wholeheartedly agree with David's choice as you enjoy your velvety coffee and read a paper in peace and quiet!
Do go!

Very good location just off the main high street. Good selection of food for lunch or breakfast, small menu but all freshly made. Good wines to have a glass or 2 with lunch, cheese boards are a particular favourite with a glass of red.
