A leading Shropshire car dealer has teamed up with The Shrewsbury Club to help enhance the thriving tennis programme they run for youngsters in local schools.

Budgen Motors, Shropshire's premier dealer for new and used Peugeot and Citroen cars and vans, has thrown their support behind The Shrewsbury Club, a health and fitness club renowned for its excellent tennis facilities.

Dave Courteen, the managing director of The Shrewsbury Club, said: "It's great that a local business like Budgen Motors are backing the tennis programmes that we do in schools.

"They believe passionately in our schools programme which are all about going out and giving children the opportunity to learn and to play tennis.

"Budgen Motors are helping to support that through their generosity and through a sponsorship programme so it's a great partnership for both businesses.

"It's really important to ourselves at The Shrewsbury Club that we build lots of relationships with the local community and working with Budgen Motors is another way we can deliver that.

"They are a company that believe in great customer service and that is what we always strive for here at The Shrewsbury Club."

James Martin, the managing director of Budgen Motors, said he is a keen tennis fan and the company are pleased to be helping more youngsters to enjoy the sport.

He added: "The Shrewsbury Club are doing lots of good things in schools and we are really pleased to be supporting the initiatives.

"As a club, they are on our doorstep in terms of location and we are happy to be working with them.

"When they recently staged the professional Aegon tournament, which is a fantastic event for the town, we hosted the Budgen Motors Schools' Fun Day one morning which was attended by about 100 local children.

"They had the chance to play tennis and to also meet some of the professional women's players taking part in the tournament so that was a great experience for them."

Budgen Motors also provided cars to transport the players, rising stars of the European game, around the town during their stay in Shropshire.

Mr Courteen stressed there are benefits for customers of both The Shrewsbury Club and Budgen Motors from the partnership.

He said: "There are certain incentives, promotions and rewards that Budgen Motors will give to their customers that will involve them being able to come and access The Shrewsbury Club as a gift perhaps for buying a car.

"At the same time, Budgen Motors will provide our members with valets, test drives and different offers so our partnership is also very exciting from that perspective."

Budgen Motors, a family owned car dealer, have a Peugeot garage on Featherbed Lane in Shrewsbury and a Citroen garage nearby on Battlefield Road while they have a second Citroen dealership in Telford on Holyhead Road in Ketley.

The Shrewsbury Club is a leading health and fitness club which offers a huge range of fitness classes as well as excellent facilities at its Sundorne Road complex.

They include aerobics/spin studios, a large gymnasium with the latest Technogym equipment and Wellness Key system, a 20m swimming pool complete with sauna and steam room, indoor and outdoor tennis courts, a beauty spa and a restaurant.
