Shrewsbury-based Theatre Company, Vested Interest, are serving up a second helping of restaurant performance, ‘Sauce’ this Month.
Last summer, they teamed up with Origins Restaurant at Shrewsbury College to deliver an evening of food and theatre. Writer and director Vicki Duckett explained that the show has been brought back by popular demand: “We had people ringing up desperately trying to get hold of a ticket. It was such a shame to turn them away. So this time we have decided to perform over two evenings.
“This unique dining experience will combine a four-course meal with farcical scenes acted out by Performing Arts students, which will happen just inches away from the audience. The evening is a balance of delicious food and light-hearted entertainment. We can’t wait to perform it again.”
Origins Restaurant Manager, Ted Coxon, said the project evolved because Vicki was inspired by the venue. “It was written specifically with our restaurant in mind,” he said, “I think that’s quite special. I have been in the restaurant when Vested Interest have been rehearsing and it was exciting to see the space being used in this way. The diners are in for a treat!”
Vested Interest have the theatre company in residence at Shrewsbury College for the last 18 months and work to engage the Performing Arts students with new and original writing. Most recently, Vested Interest wrote the story for the two-night sell-out production of, ‘A Night at the Musicals’, performed at Theatre Severn.
