Shrewsbury Ladies Rugby Club’s stunning new calendar, which features members of the team in a series of 12 rugby-related Calendar Girls poses, has been listed in Rugby World’s top 10 calendars of the year for 2011.
A particularly ‘cheeky’ shot of one of the team being applauded off the Sundorne Castle pitch after giving her all, features in the January 2011 edition of the popular magazine (page 31), alongside the likes of the efforts of professional clubs such as Bath, Newport Gwent Dragons and Stade Français, as well as those of home international sides England, Wales and Ireland.
Since the image was published, Shrewsbury Ladies Rugby Club has received orders for the calendar from all over the home nations, as well as from France, Italy and even the USA. Shrewsbury skipper Karen Lee, says she’s delighted to have put the club on the map with some of the great names in rugby.
“We’re amazed and delighted by the success of the calendar. It was great fun to do and it’s gone down really well. There will be a lot of rugby fans all over the world getting the Shrewsbury Ladies in their Christmas stocking this year! We’ve had lots of orders already and more are coming in all the time. It’s fantastic to be up there alongside the professionals and the internationals. Let’s hope it rubs off on the field as well.”
