As part of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games programme, Shropshire community leaders are being urged to organise their own events locally.

Local leaders can help their communities to mark this momentous year with fun filled activities, sporting or otherwise, that can reach everyone. If you interested in organising your own Community Games event this year, in Shrewsbury, or elsewhere in the county but just don't know where to start, help is at hand.

If you have the idea, but need some assistance, then you can ake advantage of free three hour workshops on offer.

'Organising Your Community Games' is aimed at Community Games organisers who have little or no experience of organising an event.

Once you have attended you will be able to:

* Decide the scale and scope of your Community Games

* Understand the links between Community Games and the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games

* Identify the main aspects of your role as a Community Games Organiser

* Produce a project plan for your Community Games

* Identify where to go for additional help and support

Attendees will also receive a free copy of the Community Games Toolkit.

For more information, email alison.j.evans@shropshire.gov.uk at Shropshire Council.

Also, please visit the Community Games website, where you will find the full list of workshops on offer. For inspiration on events and activities, have a look at what is going on Shrewsbury over the coming months.
