Shrewsbury based singer songwriter Vincent Whyte will play two Shropshire gigs as part of a short tour to support his new album Terrapin Singtank, released later this month.

Recorded, mixed and produced by Benjamin Fitzharris (Mayors of Toronto, Cloven Hoof) at Vault Studios, Kidderminster, it is the first studio collaboration between the pair. The collection of ten songs combines drollness, sincerity, tragedy, comedy and musical prowess. It also continues Whyte’s self-styled Anglo chanson approach, uniting the world’s different manifestations of the guitar-playing poet-singer tradition, with influences from Latin America to Europe, West Africa and Japan, as well as the passed-down songs and tunes of Britain and Ireland.

Commenting on the album and its unusual title, Vincent Whyte said: “I feel this record, compared to my previous release Wallflower Swan Songs, is a more polished, funkier affair and thanks to Ben’s production, contains an injection of sonic leap to the songs. I stayed at Ben’s house during the recording process and while there I became transfixed by his pet terrapin as it serenely went about its business in a tank in the kitchen. Somehow, it visually summarised the music I was creating. Hence, Terrapin Singtank!”

Released independently via all digital platforms through his own label Wave Language Recordings on 25 January, Terrapin Singtank is available to pre order on Bandcamp at https://vincentwhyte.bandcamp.com/ or purchase as a limited edition vinyl version from Whyte’s website www.vincentwhyte.com  and at live appearances.
