An old fashioned barbering service has successfully blended cutting edge with a traditional feel at a new stall based within the award-winning Market Hall in Shrewsbury.
Risdon’s, run by 21-year-old Amber Risdon, provides customers with a full barber service including gents’ grooming, haircuts, wet shaving and a children’s service.
It is the only barber in Shrewsbury to offer a traditional wet shaves/cut-throat service and to use and supply American Crew official men’s grooming products.
Amber, from Wem, has more than seven years’ experience in hairdressing and trained in traditional cut-throat techniques while living in Australia.
Amber said: “I started out as a ladies hairdresser and then I went over to Australia where I trained in traditional wet shave techniques. When I returned to the UK I then trained in gents’ hairdressing at Radbrook College and that’s what I really love doing.
"When a space opened up at the Market Hall I was thrilled. It’s a really great atmosphere, everyone looks out for each other. I love it!”
Risdon’s is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 9am until 4pm and from 8am until 4pm on Saturdays.
Prices start from £5 for children’s cuts, £7 for men’s cuts and £12.50 for a wet shave.
A ‘Gentleman’s Club’ loyalty scheme will soon be launched and will entitle members to regular discounts and offers, as well as a complimentary glass of whisky.
