Following sell-out successes of She Stoops to Conquer in 2009 and Hay Fever earlier this year, tickets are now on sale for Shropshire Drama Company’s (SDC) forthcoming production of August Strindberg’s Creditors at Shrewsbury’s Theatre Severn Walker Theatre, from October 27th - 29th.

Presented in the new (2008) version translated by David Greig, Creditors is a tragi-comedy set in a seaside hotel. Adolph, an ailing young artist, anxiously awaits the return of his older wife Tekla, a free-spirited novelist, who is away on a trip. He takes guidance and solace from his new friend Gustav. But comfort turns to conflict as fears take hold, wounds are exposed and emotional debts settled.

Gustav is played by the well-established SDC actor Peter Beechey, whose credits include the acclaimed part of Richard III in 2008. With significant experience as both an actor and director, Jo Cox will play Tekla, her first lead role for SDC. Joseph Dawson, who has just completed a year at Birmingham School of Acting and was Paris in 2010’s Romeo & Juliet at Much Wenlock Festival, will play Adolph.

Director Paul Higgins commented: “We are staging Creditors in the round. This is a first for Theatre Severn. Strindberg sought what he called 'intimate theatre' and this arrangement will help in that respect as it will bring the audience much closer to the actors. The show is intense and run for 90 minutes, with no interval. In David Greig's raw and witty version of Strindberg's play we hope that the audience will also find emotions and concerns which are gripping and modern.”

Tickets are £12 and £10 (concessions) and available through the Theatre Severn box office (01743 281281) and online at www.theatresevern.com.
