Tennis Shropshire will be promoting the sport to youngsters attending the first Shropshire Kids Festival this weekend by running fun activities at the family-friendly event.

Keen to promote the sport

The county's governing body for tennis is always keen to head around Shropshire to encourage people to pick up a tennis racket - and their coaches are now looking forward to spending Saturday and Sunday in Shrewsbury's Quarry Park.

The festival is a new additon to the county calender, an event designed especially for children, and organisers have lined up a busy itinerary to keep them entertained.

Bob Kerr, the chairman of Tennis Shropshire, said: “We will have the colourful Tennis Factory equipment there and mini-nets. We understand the event will be very popular with children, particularly young children, so we want to get as many people as possible involved with our activities.”

A fun day out

Bob said: “It's very early in the season, so we'll hope for some excellent weather and we're looking forward to being involved at an event run by the same people who organise the successful Shrewsbury Food Festival.

“Our involvement will be a joint venture between Tennis Shropshire and The Shrewsbury Club. We're going to have coaches and volunteers on hand to encourage people to get involved with hitting a few soft tennis balls.”

Daily tickets prices for the Shropshire Kids Festival is £6 for children (aged 1-14) and £1 for adults with under-ones free. Children must be accompanied by an adult. The gates open at 10am until 5pm on both days.
