A flavour of the birthplace of the modern Olympic Games can now be tasted across the globe following the launch of Wenlock Hampers.

Much Wenlock in Shropshire is widely recognised as the home of the modern Olympic Games with the Wenlock Olympic Society having been founded by local doctor William Penny Brookes in 1860.

Wenlock Hampers celebrate this historical link by offering a truly local food and drink experience with all products sourced from producers within a 26.2 mile radius - a marathon’s distance of Much Wenlock!

This novel concept is the brainchild of HEART of ENGLAND fine foods (HEFF), the food group representing Shropshire and the rest of the heart of England region.  HEFF has strong links with Wenlock as the food group was based there for 12 years before moving to manage the Shropshire Food Enterprise Centre in Shrewsbury in 2010.

All the products included in the hampers have been carefully selected from HEFF producer members so they are all high quality products made in compliance with the HEFF Standard, HEFF’s health and hygiene third party audit.

The hampers come in different sizes of traditional wicker hamper and gift boxes with ambient and chilled options.  Products include cheese, chutney, meats, infused rapeseed oil, chocolate, beer and wine so whichever variation you choose, it will be local and it will be tasty!

As well as being enjoyed for their Olympic connection, Wenlock Hampers also make fantastic Christmas gifts for family and friends.  They can be bought at the brand new Savour the Flavour Local Food Store at Shropshire Food Enterprise Centre and through the new online shop.

More information can be found on the HEART of ENGLAND fine foods website www.heff.co.uk/shop or call 01743 452818.
