Actor Tom Graham, who plays Tom Archer in the BBC Radio 4 soap The Archers has been announced as a judge at this year’s West Midlands Tastiest Sausage Competition.
The annual competition from HEART of ENGLAND fine foods (HEFF), based at the Shropshire Food Enterprise Centre in Shrewsbury, will this year take the format of ‘One Big Sizzle Off’ and is being held on Thursday 26th January at the flagship AGA store in the Mailbox, Birmingham.
HEFF is involved in ongoing story lines in The Archers with the character Tom Archer having joined HEFF as a producer member to access help with developing and marketing his business ‘Tom Archer’s Sausages’.
Tom Graham will be joining a panel of judges to include Suzanne Virdee and Kay Alexander of BBC Midlands Today and representatives from Malmaison, The Belfry, and University College Birmingham.
Butchers from across Shropshire, Staffordshire, Herefordshire, Worcestershire, Warwickshire and Birmingham and the Black Country, are all eligible to enter their best sausages to compete for glory. This will be the 11th year HEFF has held the West Midlands Tastiest Sausage Competition to coincide with Farmhouse Breakfast Week and its ‘Shake Up Your Wake Up’ campaign.
There are two categories for butchers to enter; Tastiest Breakfast Sausage and Tastiest Speciality Sausage. These will be taste tested on the day by the panel of judges.
The West Midlands Tastiest Juice Competition will also run alongside with producers invited to enter drinks into the Tastiest Apple Juice (cox variety) category and the Tastiest Breakfast Juice category (blend or smoothie).
The deadline for entries is Friday 20th January.
