Producers from HEART of ENGLAND fine foods (HEFF), based at The Shropshire Food Enterprise Centre in Shrewsbury have met with a Government Minister at a food and drink expo.
Jim Paice, the Minister of State for Agriculture and Food, has met with producers from the heart of England region at Food and Drink Expo in Birmingham.
Mr Paice visited the stand of food group HEFF to speak with Chief Executive Karen Davies about developments in the sector and to talk to local producers.
Food and Drink Expo, featuring Farm Shop and Deli, is the UK’s largest food and drink trade show in 2012 and was held at the NEC Birmingham (25-27March).
Mr Paice met with six food and drink producers who were exhibiting at the show under the HEFF banner. He spoke to representatives from Smoke and Pickle (Shrewsbury), Wenlock Spring (Church Stretton), Bennett’s Foods (Worcester), Sunshine Foods (Wednesbury), Fowlers of Earlswood (Solihull) and Packington Free Range (Burton on Trent).
Mrs Davies said: “The Minister was interested to meet producers and understand more about their products and the opportunities to develop new markets at home and abroad.”
HEFF is exhibiting at Food and Drink Expo representing the region’s local food and drink sector and promoting the services it offers to assist small to medium sized businesses. The newly launched HEFF Trading Desk is working on behalf of its producer members to increase sales both regionally and nationally and has been attracting considerable interest at the trade show from buyers who are interested in local sourcing.
Retail, hospitality and food service buyers can choose from more than 1,000 product lines from over 60 local producers in just one phone call to The HEFF Trading Desk. The team handle the ordering and invoicing process on behalf of producers and keep buyers up to date with seasonal additions to lines.
