Shrewsbury is preparing for one of its most magical nights of the year as the final touches are made for the much-loved Carols in the Square celebration on Wednesday 17th December.

This cherished festive tradition bursts into life from 5.30pm, filling the town centre with heart-warming music, Christmas cheer and plenty of family fun.

Organised by Shrewsbury Town Council, the concert will once again be broadcast live on BBC Radio Shropshire, with Adam Green and Clare Ashford hosting the festivities from 6.00pm to 7.00pm.

The atmosphere will be lifted by the brilliant Shrewsbury Brass Band, while members of the Shrewsbury Male Voice Choir lead thousands of voices through timeless Christmas classics including Silent Night, On the First Day of Christmas and O Little Town of Bethlehem.

Song sheets will be available on the night and can also be downloaded by visiting:

Thanks to Shrewsbury’s own Microvideo, the concert will be streamed live to audiences across the globe—meaning people everywhere can join Shrewsbury in song and spirit via www.carolsinthesquare.com

Helen Ball, Town Clerk for Shrewsbury Town Council, said:
“Carols in the Square is one of the true highlights of Shrewsbury’s Christmas season. The atmosphere is always incredible, and we can’t wait to see the Square filled with families, friends and festive voices. Bring your best singing voice, pick up a song sheet and come and enjoy a magical evening!”

To ensure the event runs safely, temporary road closures will be in place on Wyle Cop (towards the town centre), High Street, and Princess Street from 4.30pm to 7.30pm, with The Square closed all day from 8am.

For those looking to complete their Christmas shopping, the Darwin Shopping Centre will be open until 7pm, while Shrewsbury Market Hall will host a special late-night shopping event until 8pm, offering handcrafted gifts and the chance to toast the festive season in its popular eateries, cafes and bars.
