An award-winning vineyard is to open a Christmas shop in Shrewsbury following a 'perfect year' thanks to the long, warm summer.
Wroxeter Roman Vineyard, run by husband and wife team Martin and Amanda Millington, is opening up a store at the Darwin Shopping Centre in Shrewsbury for the festive period.
As well as top quality and award-winning wines from the fruit of the vines and orchards at Wroxeter, the shop will also showcase other quality county brands, offering shoppers a chance to buy local food and drink for Christmas gifts.
Mrs Millington said: “The vines were planted on land next to the Roman City of Uriconium 22 years ago and 2013 has undoubtedly been a perfect year weatherwise for the vineyard.
July and August gave us a stretch of stunning sunny days, but we're grateful for the freezing winter that came before that, the mixture of temperatures has resulted in idyllic conditions for the growing of grapes.
“Now we're into winter and for the 17th year in a row, we're opening up our Christmas store in Shrewsbury. It's fantastic to be back at the Darwin Centre and this year it really is packed to the brim with produce. We've extended our range this year, so there is so much on offer in store.”
The extended range on sale at the shop, situated on the middle level of the shopping centre next to Mothercare. this year includes fruit wines; stuffings, dips and speciality spices from Shropshire Spices based in Clun; variations of pure honey from Shropshire Honey, in Church Stretton and Shropshire's award winning beers from Hobson's Brewery.
A wide range of hampers will also be available to buy, the perfect Christmas present for those wishing to experience the quality of what Shropshire's food and drink producers have to offer.
The shop is open Monday to Saturday 9am till 5pm and on Sundays 10.30 till 4pm. Last day of trading will be Christmas Eve from 9am until 2pm.
