Shrewsbury Town Council is inviting members of the public to join a special Service of Commemoration marking the 85th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain on Sunday 14th September 2025 at the War Memorial in The Quarry, Shrewsbury.
The Battle of Britain, fought in the summer of 1940, was a decisive moment in the Second World War. Facing the threat of invasion, Britain’s defence was carried by the courage and determination of “The Few” — the RAF pilots and crews who helped change the course of history. Sir Winston Churchill’s words still resonate today:
“Never in the field of human conflict was so much owed by so many to so few.”
The Service offers an opportunity for the community to come together in gratitude and remembrance, paying tribute to those who served during the Battle of Britain and honouring all who have served since.
Order of Events
The Mayor of Shrewsbury, Councillor Alex Wagner, said:
“This Commemoration Service is a moment for us all to reflect on the courage, sacrifice and endurance of those who defended our country in its darkest hour. It is important that we gather as a community to ensure their legacy is never forgotten.”
