Shrewsbury Town Council has announced the return of its popular Summer of Music programme for 2026, following the success of last year’s inaugural series at the Quarry Bandstand.
This year’s programme promises to be bigger than ever, with live performances now taking place on both Saturdays and Sundays across the summer months. Running from Sunday 10 May through to Sunday 23 August, the free music series invites residents and visitors alike to enjoy relaxed afternoons of live entertainment in one of Shrewsbury’s most picturesque settings.
Set against the backdrop of the Quarry Park, the programme has become a popular way for people to spend time outdoors with family and friends. Visitors are encouraged to bring a picnic and a camping chair, settle in by the bandstand and enjoy a wide variety of musical performances throughout the season.
The 2026 line-up features an eclectic mix of acts, including brass bands, concert bands, saxophone ensembles, military bands, accordion music and choir performances, ensuring there is something to suit all musical tastes.
Sarah Loeptien, Administrator for Shrewsbury Town Council and organiser of the programme, said the response to last year’s events had been overwhelmingly positive.
“After such a positive response to last year’s programme, we’re really pleased to be bringing Summer of Music back for 2026 with an even bigger and more varied line-up,” she said.
“There’s something really special about relaxing in the Quarry with family and friends, a picnic, and some uplifting live music. We’re looking forward to welcoming both regular visitors and new audiences to enjoy everything the programme has to offer – and best of all, it’s completely free.”
Highlights from this year’s programme include performances from Wellington Brass Band, Shrewsbury Male Voice Choir, Church Stretton Accordion Band, The Band of the Mercian Regiment and many more regional ensembles and performers.
All performances begin at 2pm unless otherwise stated, with events taking place regularly throughout May, June, July and August.
The expanded programme reflects Shrewsbury Town Council’s ongoing commitment to providing accessible, community-focused events that encourage people to enjoy the town’s green spaces and cultural offerings.
