Shrewsbury residents are warmly encouraged to attend Shrewsbury Town Council’s Annual Town Meeting on Thursday 30 April from 7pm at The Guildhall, Frankwell Quay. This meeting of the electorate of the Parish of Shrewsbury provides an important opportunity for residents to receive updates about what is happening in their town, while also having their say on key local issues.

A central focus of this year’s meeting will be the future of The Quarry, one of Shrewsbury’s most valued green spaces.  This will be an opportunity for local residents to share their views about The Quarry which will help guide how the park is managed and developed for future generations.

This discussion will support the development of a new Quarry Conservation Plan which is being prepared by Shrewsbury-based consultants, Camlins Landscape Architects, of which community input will play a vital role in shaping its direction.

The Quarry discussion will further explore a range of important themes, including the overall layout of the park and the location of key features such as the play area, which is currently situated within a flood plain. Other topics will include play provision, transport and travel access, the types of events residents would like to see in the park, public safety, and how The Quarry can best support wildlife and horticulture.

The Mayor of Shrewsbury, Councillor Alex Wagner, said:
“The Quarry is one of Shrewsbury’s greatest assets, enjoyed by residents and visitors alike. It plays a vital role in the wellbeing of our community and the character of our town. The Quarry Conservation Plan will safeguard this special place for the next generation, and it is essential that local people are at the heart of that conversation. I would strongly encourage residents to attend the Annual Town Meeting and share their views.”

The meeting will also include updates on other significant projects and initiatives across the town. These include progress on the Smithfield Riverside development, which Shrewsbury Town Council will be landscaping later this year.

Residents who attend will hear from Heather Kidd from Shropshire Council and Seb Slater from Shrewsbury BID, who will provide organisational updates. The annual update will be given by Rob Wilson, Leader of Shrewsbury Town Council, and Chief Inspector Rachel Ryan who will address residents on local policing matters.

Residents will also receive an update on Shrewsbury Town Council’s newly launched street cleansing service, which began operations on 1 April, delivering mechanical street sweeping and bin emptying across the town.

Helen Ball, Town Clerk of Shrewsbury Town Council, said:
“This year’s Annual Town Meeting is a real opportunity for residents to have their say particularly on the future of The Quarry. We want as many people as possible to come along, share their views, and help shape how this important space is designed, used and protected. As well as contributing to the Quarry Conservation Plan, residents will hear about key developments and services affecting the town and have the chance to ask questions.”

The Annual Town Meeting is open to all residents across Shrewsbury’s 17 wards. Whether you want to learn more about what’s happening locally, ask questions, or directly influence decisions about The Quarry and wider town priorities, this is your opportunity to get involved.

Have your say and help shape the future of The Quarry and Shrewsbury.
