An exciting project which features kaleidoscopic images projected onto the iconic Shrewsbury Market Hall building has launched.

Shrewsbury-based new media artist, Andy Mckeown, brings the Kaleidoscopia project back to the town for the first time since 2008.

Since the project first launched, Andy’s work has been showcased throughout the UK - most recently illuminating the interior of York Minster Cathedral and, for the last three years, Kaleidoscopia has been showcased at the Digital Graffiti festival in Florida.

The project, which runs from December 12-24, will see a series of gently moving kaleidoscopic images selected from an open public submission, and two free drop-in workshop sessions, projected onto the Market Hall building.

The first workshop was held today [December 12) with the second date planned for December 19 at the Bird’s Nest Café in the market, from 10am until 3pm. There will also be a live Kaleidoscopia event on the same day, from 5-8pm, outside Moss Bros on Mardol Head.

Anyone can get involved and submit Christmas themed image fragments to be displayed on the Market Hall building by downloading the free Kaleidoscopia toolkit from www.kaleidoscopiaLIVE.com.

Kate Gittins’ site facilities manager at the market said: “We have wanted to work with Andy for some time, his work is fabulous and we are delighted he is working with us to light up the market this Christmas. It’s really easy to take part, if you can’t attend a workshop then simply upload your images to the website. Each Kaleidoscopia image is accompanied by the makers name so join in and see your name in lights!”
