One of Shropshire’s leading law firms has achieved Green Achiever’s Gold Standard for the fourth year running!

As part of Lanyon Bowdler’s approach to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), environmental impact is taken very seriously. The partners and staff believe a demonstrable and continually evolving environmental policy is an important part of the business.

Operations manager Rowland Waddington said “Our environmental efforts were initially driven by the staff, but it quickly became apparent financial savings were being made. A key factor in our success has been the willingness of the management to invest in projects which offer long term savings.”

In 2008 the firm had three offices and 120 employees – today there are five offices and well over 200 staff, despite this, energy consumption has remained the same thanks to efficiencies such as the introduction of virtual servers and the fitting of thermostats to heating systems.

There are some easy wins too – a rolling programme of replacing all halogen lighting with energy efficient LEDs not only directly reduces energy usage, the savings to the firm can also be seen in the time and cost required for maintenance, now every 12 – 15 months as opposed to every three.

The firm joined E4Environment’s Green Achiever scheme five years ago using it to help put in place achievable goals which would have an impact on the environment, but also on the balance sheet.
