SHREWSBURY & ATCHAM BOROUGH COUNCIL NEWS - Shrewsbury's new purpose-built Indoor Bowls centre at the Shrewsbury Sports Village has been awarded £18,000 by Sport England from the National Lottery Community Investment Fund.

The grant will be used to provide an infrastructure of bowls coaching specifically targeted at women, young girls and those within Shrewsbury with special needs and or disabilities. Equipment provision will include two specially designed buggies for use by the disabled available on request and at no cost.

Alan Wallin, Leisure and Community Development Manager for SABC, said, "It is very pleasing that Sport England have once again chosen to endorse and financially support a project on behalf of Shrewsbury and Atcham Borough Council. The addition of the indoor Bowls Centre within the Shrewsbury Sports Village has already demonstrated its value in attracting a far wider range of users to the facility as a whole."

A programme of coaching and bowling activities will be provided over a three year period, which it is hoped will encourage more people to take up the sport of bowls.
