Signal, Shrewsbury’s hearing loss charity begins its befriending and deaf awareness project across Shropshire on 1stJuly.

This three year project reaching over 600 people aims to make Shropshire a deaf friendly county.

It’s a sad fact that people with hearing loss develop other health issues and are twice as likely to be depressed, twice as likely to develop dementia and twice as likely to develop diabetes.

If you have hearing loss yourself you will know how it can knock confidence and make you less likely to go out. Working with volunteers Signal aims to build confidence and encourage people with hearing loss to get out and become active in their communities again. We will offer guidance and advice as well as emotional support and companionship.

Signal wants to get people talking about hearing loss, letting everyone understand how it affects people and to reduce the stigma that can be associated with the condition.

If you have experience of hearing loss and would like to volunteer to help us build a deaf friendly community in Shropshire please contact Frances frances@signal.org.uk or phone 01743 358356. To find out more see our web page www.signal.org.uk
