Local people have the chance to stay healthy and support charity at the same time when The Shrewsbury Club hold a members open day in aid of Sport Relief on Sunday.

Collection buckets will be around the club on Sundorne Road for members to give what they would like to Sport Relief by taking part in a wide range of activities while non-members will also have the chance to join in for a minimum donation of £1 a time.

"It will be fun for all the family and it's the perfect way to spend a Sunday," said Andy Thomas, the sales and marketing manager at The Shrewsbury Club.

"The day will all be about fitness, fun, food, entertainment and a change from the norm while, at the same time, being able to support such a great cause as Sport Relief.

"We are a friendly club with lots to offer and we hope to see lots of familiar as well as new faces."

A free one-week trial to The Shrewsbury Club will be offered to everyone who attends the open day

The open day will run from 9.30am to 5pm with both club members and non-members invited to try their hand at a number of activities.

The studio will offer the chance to take part in aqua, zumba, spin and step and lots more while for youngsters there will be kids fitness sessions, kids street dance and teen gym. Numbers are limited so booking is recommended.

Gym-based workshops will be held throughout the day while there will also be a 1,000 metres run, row and cycle with prizes up for grabs for the winners.

Tennis taster sessions for adults and children, of all abilities, will take place from noon until 2pm under the watchful eye of the club's director of tennis Nigel Hunter.

Complimentary mini-treatments will be available from the club's Imagine Spa while the other highlights include live music between 11am-3pm from Andy O'Brien.

There will also be a cookery demonstration in The Hub at noon from the club's head chef Duncan Carpenter who will be making Thai khao tom gai soup, a firm favourite of members.
