One of Shropshire’s most well-respected funeral directors is celebrating success after its customer care was recognised in the Shropshire Star Excellence in Business Awards.

Aubrey Kirkham Funeral Directors has been announced as just one of three companies shortlisted in the Customer Champion category of the regional awards scheme, which acknowledges those who are committed to achieving outstanding customer service at all levels.

Aubrey Kirkham, Director of the firm, explained: “We’re absolutely delighted to have been selected as a company that really recognises the importance of going the extra mile to look after client needs. Just last year, we won the Shropshire Business Awards’ Customer Care category, as well as picking up the Gold Mayor of Shrewsbury award, so we’re certainly hoping for a hat-trick!”

The firm’s standard of customer care was evidenced through its extensive and ongoing investment in staff training and development, is especially important in an industry where its team has to be able to support clients after the loss of a loved one and during what is an emotional and very challenging time.

“Each and every member of the team genuinely cares about the wellbeing of our clients,” Aubrey added. “But dealing with those who have lost a loved one can be hugely difficult for them too, which is why training and development to enable them to support clients with the utmost compassion and care is of very high importance.”

It was not only the company’s direct commitment to client care that was highlighted but its ongoing investment in the local community, with time and effort being spent supporting a number of worthy causes, including the now annual St. Chads Church Christmas Tree display event – which it was one of the very first companies to pledge its support.

Aubrey is also Vice President for the Shrewsbury Flower Show, his daughter Leanne Garvey-Kirkham is Chairwoman of the very demanding Trade Stands & Catering Sub Committee, and his wife Ann is a Member of the General Committee responsible for the Floral Art Marquees at the show. Whilst staging the show each year for over 50,000 people across a weekend, the team is able to put a lot into the local community and the charitable cause.

“We’re proud to have built a company based on the ethos of achieving high standards of customer care so to have this recognised in this way is extremely rewarding. We’re very much looking forward to an evening of celebrations and recognitions at the awards dinner in April,” he concluded.

Founded at the turn of the century, Aubrey Kirkham Funeral Directors saw the culmination of Aubrey’s 30-year vision to run a respectful and esteemed funeral service. The firm has introduced a number of dedicated initiatives, including access to support DVDs from internationally-renowned grief counsellors, as well as launching its Expression of Wishes form to give people the opportunity to make a note of things that are important to them, helping their families arrange the perfect ceremony.
