A major Shropshire music festival has been nominated for two awards in a national competition to recognise the best events of the year.
Fans will be able to vote for Shrewsbury Folk Festival to win the ‘Best Family Festival’ and the ‘Best Small Festival’ categories in the UK Festival Awards until midday on November 1 at www.festivalawards.com/vote
It is the first time that the festival has entered the awards. Everyone who votes will be entered in the draw to win two tickets to every winning festival.
Folk Festival Director Alan Surtees said the nominations were “the icing on the cake of a spectacular year” for the four day event, which is held in the town every Bank Holiday August.
“This year’s festival was a vintage one – it was a fabulous few days of brilliant music and dance combined with the amazing atmosphere created by our festivalgoers. They come from far and wide to enjoy the festival and we are known for the special ‘feeling’ that Shrewsbury has to offer.
“We’d like everyone who has ever to Shrewsbury and enjoyed themselves to vote and help us win one or both of the awards. It would mean a lot to be recognised by an industry event like this.”
The festival is also entered into the Best Use of New Technology award for its innovative free webcast that is broadcast worldwide, thanks to Shrewsbury based Microvideo and IT specialist Paul Ebrey. A panel of experts will decide on the winner of that category.
