Shrewsbury Film, formerly Shrewsbury Film Society, has today announced a funding award from Film Hub North West Central, part of the BFI UK-wide Film Audience Network that aims to bring independent and British film to UK audiences.

The new funding award will allow Shrewsbury Film to launch their seasonal programme of films in September.

The project offers a varied programme of the best modern and classic films from around the world and the funding will be used to offer local people a much wider range of art house films right in the heart of Shrewsbury.

Founded in 2011 by friends Corinne, Sally and Peter, Shrewsbury Filmteamed up with The Hive to give the community greater access to films in a friendly, social environment.

Situated in the town centre, the Hive is the perfect venue for the not-for-profit organisation with a central location, bar, auditorium and established reputation for entertainment, arts and culture.

Starting out with an audience of just twenty seven on launch night, Shrewsbury Film has grown to attract regular audiences of over seventy, with their unique and wide-ranging programme.

Film Hub NWC is a network of organisations that share a commitment to enhancing opportunities for people to engage with a diverse range of independent and world cinema and to develop the sector across the regions and beyond. The NWC area includes Cheshire, Derbyshire, Greater Manchester, Lancashire, Merseyside, Shropshire and Staffordshire.. The recent wave of projects on board represents the commitment of organisations in the North West Central region to helping people build lifelong relationships with film.

Shrewsbury Film will launch its new season on Friday 11 September and runs until 11 April 2016, with additional mid-week films on Wednesdays from 16 September. Season tickets can be purchased for just £38 for 16 Fridays with single tickets on the door or in advance for £6.

Film Hub NWC is led by HOME, Manchester and is part of the BFI Film Audience Network.
