An adventurous dental team in Shrewsbury are preparing to take on a new look later this month to raise money to support children and young people with cancer.
Clinical Director Roy Dixon and his team from the Dental Spa, will be donning a variety of theatrical wigs for 'Wig Wednesday' on 21st May, in hope to raise money for a leading cancer support charity, CLIC Sargent.
The team will be collecting donations all day in the practice based at Darwin Court in Oxon Business Park, as well as hosting a cake sale to generate funds.
Roy, who will be sporting his favourite wig, commented: “The team and I are really looking forward to seeing our patients on 'Wig Wednesday' and we've all been busy practising our baking skills for the cake sale. This may seem like just a bit of fun for us, but the funds we raise will be very much valued by a fantastic charity.”
CLIC Sargent aims to ease the impact of childhood cancer on children, young people and their families through clinical, practical and emotional support.
“Every day ten families find out that their child has cancer. This diagnosis is often shocking, and can cause panic, stress and emotional trauma," Roy explained. "Many children and young people will then undergo a course of intense sessions of treatment, which can last as long as three years. CLIC Sargent offers support throughout this time - from financial assistance, to providing 'home from home' accommodation close to specialist hospitals – all of which makes a big difference to families impacted by cancer."
If you'd like to see the Dental Spa team in their wigs, sample their baking and add to their fundraising efforts, pop into the practice between 8.15am and 5pm on Wednesday 21st May.
