An exhibition of creative work produced by Art & Design Lecturer at Shrewsbury College, will be displayed this summer at the new, Shrewsbury Museum.
Jill Impey was awarded Arts Council funding in 2012 for a three part project. This particular exhibition is the final part of the, ‘Being Human’ project, and will include a three screen installation of films produced by Jill. The films record the responses of young students to the ideas of culture, artefacts and people.
Jill said: “I have been working with the museum for two years (previously at Rowley’s House), as part of their Contemporary Artist Professional Development Programme, which I was selected for, along with seven other Shropshire based Artists.
“The idea for this project came about because of my interest in the development of cultural identity, migration and evolution,” she continued. “I have lived in many multicultural cities in the UK and I have always been fascinated with the differences and similarities of cultural mixes.”
“Last year I worked closely with two groups of students from Shrewsbury College including a Media group and an Art & Design group. Being able to incorporate my art work into my teaching career has valuable benefits as I believe it’s important to include my students in out-of-college projects,” she concluded.
The Being Human project will be exhibited at the New Shrewsbury Museum & Art Gallery from Friday 23 May until Wednesday 30 July. For more information about the exhibition, including opening times and prices the Shrewsbury Museum please call 01743 258885.
