The story, which is arguably best known as the 1986 black-comedy film version, directed by Frank Oz and starring Rick Moranis and Steve Martin, is an adaptation of the off-Broadway musical composed by Alan Menken and writer Howard Ashman.

It tells the tale of a nerdy florist shop-worker who raises a vicious, raunchy plant that feeds on human blood.

The production will be performed by year 1 and 2, Level 3, Performing Arts students, ahead of their summer showcase at Theatre Severn in June.

Michael Jenkins, Performing Arts Lecturer at Shrewsbury College, said: “The show is packed full of comedy and romance which is guided by a superb score and stylish writing.

“I’m extremely excited to see the students perform the show; they are rehearsing hard and producing some fantastic material. All they need now is a live audience.”

Performances will be held from the May 6-9, at 7.30pm with matinee performances on May 6 and 7 at 1.15pm. Tickets are £8 and £6 concessions.
