Shrewsbury based graphic design and marketing firm Verve has won a  Managing Change Award in the Shropshire Business Awards.

The Shropshire Business Awards, otherwise known as: "The Oscars of local industry and commerce" took place at The International Centre, Telford recently.

A few weeks prior to the ceremony taking place, it was announced that Verve Graphic Design & Marketing, Pleydell Smithyman Limited, Saint Gobain PAM UK Ltd, and Linder Myers were all shortlisted as potential winners of the Managing Change award.

The night began with an introductory speech from the night's host – Carl Jones, who thanked everyone for their support on behalf of the event's sponsors. Shortly after, Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson, two-time Paralympic World Cup medalist, provided one of the night's finest moments with her inspirational talk on handling adversity, in both life and business.

On her love of award ceremonies Dame Tanni said: "I love coming to award ceremonies because it's a big celebration, knowing that you've done something right and everyone around has seen you've done something good." As the mood was set and everyone was settled in, the ceremony continued as the winners of each award were announced. 7 awards in, it was time to announce the winner of the Managing Change award.

After a long pause, it was announced that Shrewsbury based Web Design Company, Verve Graphic Design & Marketing were crowned as the winners.

Managing Director of Verve, Julian Smout, Technical Director, Mark Hambley, and Project Manager, Anne-Marie Bebbington made their way to the stage as the fellow local businesses in attendance applauded their accomplishment.

"We were so proud to be shortlisted as finalists for the Managing Change award." Julian Smout said.

"We never expected to win, but it is a great testament to our hard work over the years and how we've coped with various changes. Verve have a great team on board who've adapted to the changes in both our business and the industry we work in.

“We all have had to be incredibly versatile at times, even having to re-train, but we have all kept focused on our long term goals. Each of our team members share the same vision and play a major part in managing change.”

“I would like to thank all of our team for their hard work over the last seven years. I would also like to thank our clients. A lot of our clients have been with us since we started and have grown alongside us and have flourished as we have, which is fantastic.” Julian added.

Mark Hambley, Technical Director of Verve also shared his gratitude for winning the award.

"The Shropshire Business Awards is the largest business gathering of its kind anywhere in Britain outside of London." he said.

"Winning Managing Change 2013 is a great accomplishment for our business and something Verve are exceptionally proud of. We hope to manage future business developments in the same manner in order for our company to continue growing."

Shortly after Verve claimed their award, Grocontinental, who became the only company ever to take home the top prize for a second time, won the final award of the evening, Company of the Year.

Before the night concluded with a ballroom celebration, the team over at Verve extended their congratulations to all of the businesses that were a part of the awards as well as the event's hosts.
