The magic of Christmas has rubbed off on a Shrewsbury company which has welcomed a record number of children to visit Santa’s grotto this year.

Visitors for Santa

Since the grotto opened on November 26, more than 600 children have given their Christmas present wish lists to Santa at caravan and motorhome dealership Salop Leisure’s Emstrey headquarters and the company is expecting this total to rise to more than 1,000 by Christmas Eve.

The popular grotto is open this weekend and every day next week from 10am to 4pm until December 24, when it closes at 3pm. Children are able take home a professional photograph of their visit.

Triple the sales

It’s not only Santa who has been kept busy, however, as Christmas tree sales at the company’s Love Plants specialist plants centre have also tripled this year.

Tony Bywater, Salop Leisure’s chairman, said: “It’s the best Christmas build up we have ever experienced. Word has quickly spread around the town about our fantastic Santa’s grotto.

“Rather than closing in December like some in the caravan industry do, we spend thousands of pounds transforming our sales centre into a winter wonderland. Christmas is a special time of the year and it’s important that we create some magic for our customers who have young families.”
