A major Shropshire show promoting the latest innovations in new holiday homes, touring caravans and motorhomes for 2015 has been declared a huge success.

Thousands of visitors attended the 10-day West Midlands Caravan and Motorhome Show at Salop Leisure in Shrewsbury, which closed on Sunday, with sales well up on the corresponding event last year.

Salop Leisure’s chairman Tony Bywater revealed that the first weekend of the show had been a record breaker for sales of touring caravans, motorhomes and caravan holiday homes. The company secured more sales over the weekend than in the first five days of the 2013 show.

After a couple of quiet days in the week, caused by the wet weather, the show ended in style with a further flurry of sales on Saturday and Sunday.

“A massive surge of confidence has returned to the market place,” said Mr Bywater. “People feel much more secure than they did this time last year, which has led to a feel good factor.

“The excellent sales at the show have teed us up nicely for the forthcoming a year, which we think is going to be very successful. A lot of the caravans and motorhomes sold are 2015 models, which will be ready for deliver early in the new year.

“The good weather this summer and autumn has given the tourism economy a big boost as more and more couples and families are beginning to realise what caravans and motorhomes can offer them.

“It was very pleasing to see the age profile of customers buying caravans and motorhomes at the show. They ranged from young families to retired couples who have one thing in common, a desire to make the most of their quality time together.”

He also revealed that four new caravan holiday home models designed exclusively for Salop Leisure had been very well received at the show.

Priced between £22,395 and £28,990, the ABI Stretton, ABI Long Mynd, Willerby Shrewsbury and Willerby Wrekin have been designed to offer outstanding value for money following detailed customer feedback.

The free show, which attracted visitors from across the UK, was a one stop shop for existing owners and newcomers wishing to buy their first caravan or motorhome. A caravan holiday home and park finding zone promoted around 20 top quality parks in individual marquees.

Coffees and teas sold to visitors throughout the 10 days helped to raise money for Wales Air Ambulance, Salop Leisure’s adopted charity for 2014.
