A special postbox has appeared in Shrewsbury town centre, giving youngsters the chance to send a letter to Father Christmas.

The postbox is underneath the Old Market Hall in The Square, and the last date for posting is December 19.

The large traditional Christmas tree, supplied by Leaton Forest, has also returned alongside the postbox as part of Shrewsbury BID’s festive campaign in the town centre.

Emma Molyneux, of Shrewsbury BID, said: “This is the fourth year we have arranged letters to Father Christmas and the postbox has grown in popularity every year.

“Children can use a special template from the Original Shrewsbury website, or they can simply write their own letter on plain paper, whatever they prefer. The most important thing is to include an email address so Father Christmas can reply!

“And of course he is very busy in the run-up to the big day, so letters need to be posted by December 19 to ensure he has time to read them and send a reply.”

Beth Swaffield, store manager of JoJo Maman Bebe in The Square, said: “Seeing the postbox and Christmas tree go up in The Square is becoming an annual tradition, and both are very much enjoyed by youngsters and adults alike.

“The Square acts as Shrewsbury’s natural focal point, so it’s great to have festive attractions like this which encourage people to spend more time in the town centre.

“Our customers always say how lovely the town centre is at Christmas - there’s just something about Shrewsbury which makes it extra special at this time of year.”

Along with the postbox and tree, Shrewsbury BID has also arranged for a special Christmas window display in the former Edinburgh Woollen Mill shop in High Street.

The display is made up of multiple layers for children to discover, as well as promoting the multitude of shops, bars and restaurants in Shrewsbury town centre at Christmas.
