A local firm of funeral directors is quite literally building on its strong foundations by investing in an additional office in Shrewsbury, and refurbishing an old eyesore building.

Work has started on a new London Road office for Aubrey Kirkham Funeral Directors, who already have offices on Frankwell in Shrewsbury, as well as in Welshpool and Four Crosses. The new office will be open towards the end of the year and will provide families from across the region with a convenient location to meet the firm’s dedicated team. It will house a showroom for Magnolia Memorials, a collection of personally-crafted headstones, vases and urns headed up by Leanne Garvey, one of just a handful of fully-qualified female funeral directors in Shropshire. There will also be a dedicated Ceremony Room and Chapels of Rest, with one dedicated to the Military.

“We’re really pleased that we’ve been able to find a suitable location for an additional Shrewsbury office,” Aubrey Kirkham, Managing Director of the firm, explained. “Client care has always been at the heart of our business and we wanted to ensure that families receive the very best possible service, with ample parking, the choice of avoiding the hustle and bustle of the town centre, and accessible transport links.”

The London Road site, formerly Gattensbury’s Garage and more recently home to the Mullins Heating showroom, has stood empty since May 2011 after a number of fire fighters battled to extinguish a devastating fire. Building work is underway to house a window display of memorial stones, a reception room, three discussion rooms, a room for family tribute, and ceremony and storage space.

“We recently had a number of solar panels installed across our offices and we’re really keen to replicate this and further demonstrate our commitment to the environment by having them installed at our London Road office too,” added Aubrey.

The firm’s new office will be called ‘Gattensbury House’, named after the family who originally erected the building at the end of the First World War.
