Shrewsbury College has enhanced its programmes of study and ways of combining different subjects, so now you can take a different approach to study, at whatever level you’re at.

Whether your GCSE results were not as good as you hoped, or you surpassed your expectations, or if you want to return to learning or just pick up a qualification in a subject you are interested in, Shrewsbury College has a programme to suit.

You can combine Level 3 vocational diplomas with an A Level or two vocational subjects at Level 2 with GCSEs if that’s more suitable. A grid can be found on the College website showing the combinations of courses available. Many universities prefer the BTEC diplomas as entry to degrees as BTECs prepare you for study, research and independent thinking. We can help you make the right choice at advice events.

GCSE subjects on offer include Art & Design, Astronomy, Language (Russian or Chinese), Physical Education (PE), Psychology and Science, and if you haven’t already got a C in English or Maths, the College will help you achieve this. A Levels available to study alongside a Level 3 qualification include Business, Sociology, Human Biology, PE, English, Mathematics, Psychology and Biology.

Emma Pearson, 18, from Shrewsbury, has just completed her Level 3 Diploma in Performing Arts. She is going to Merseyside School of Dance and Drama this September and hopes to become a professional dancer and performer.

She said: “It’s been a great experience at Shrewsbury College and I have learned lots and had lots of opportunities to perform in front of audiences and put on professional shows. I chose Shrewsbury College because it was a practical based course and because of the facilities which are better than other Colleges. I was also able to re-take my English GCSE while here, alongside my course. I feel more prepared for the next stage of my education now and my confidence has been really boosted.”

The College is holding advice events on September 1, 3, 9 and 11 - all from 5-7pm.

There is an event on 5 September from 10am to 1.45pm to get advice on a special year long programme of study of 6 GCSEs including maths and English. Or call Course Advice on 01743 342332
