Organisers of the Christmas lights switch on, Destination Shrewsbury – a partnership organisation with responsibility for promoting business and tourism in the town – are looking for bands and choirs of all ages and abilities to take part in Shrewsbury’s Christmas Cracker on November 21.

Event bosses are promising an evening of festive fun for all ages with entertainment dotted around town at various locations, including the Square and Darwin and Pride Hill shopping centres.

Last year’s popular lantern parade will also make a return, with a free lantern-making workshop taking place on November 17, from 11am until 4pm, in the Riverside Shopping Centre.

Participants are then invited to be part of the grand parade through the town on November 21.

John Hall, from Shop in the Loop – one of the partnership organisations which form Destination Shrewsbury – said: “We are planning a fun-filled evening to mark the launch of the Christmas lights and late night shopping in the town and we are looking for brass bands, adult and children’s choirs to volunteer to take part and help make this a magical event for all the family.”

To take part bands and choirs must be available to perform on November 21 between 5pm and 8pm. Time slots and locations will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.

To register for the event email suzi.wilkinson-stc@shropshire.gov.uk or call 01743 257654. Registrations must be received by October 19.
