The Mayor of Shrewsbury is inviting residents, businesses and community groups for a final charity fundraising event of the term – a Curry Evening on Tuesday 5 May.
The event will take place at The Masala, St Julian’s Friars, with guests arriving from 6.00pm ahead of food being served at 6.30pm. Tickets cost £20 per person and include poppadoms, a starter, a main course (with four choices available on the night, including vegetarian options), rice and naan.
Funds raised during the evening will support Shrewsbury Street Pastors and West Mercia Search & Rescue, two organisations that play a vital role in keeping people safe and supported across Shrewsbury and the wider area.
The Mayor of Shrewsbury, Councillor Alex Wagner, said:
“As my mayoral year comes to a close, I’m really looking forward to one final charity event and I hope people will be able to join us. This evening is about coming together, enjoying good food, and supporting fantastic causes that do so much for our community throughout the year.
"I’m incredibly grateful to The Masala for hosting us and to everyone who continues to support the Mayor’s Charity Fund – every ticket sold makes a real difference.”
Organisations supported by the Mayor’s charities are encouraged to attend, bring popup banners and materials, and share a few words about their work during the evening. Subject to time and support, a raffle may also be held, with donations of prizes welcomed.
Ronnie Rahman, manager of The Masala, said:
“We’re delighted to be hosting the Mayor’s charity curry night. These kinds of events are so important for bringing people together and supporting local causes, and we’re proud to play our part. We’re looking forward to welcoming everyone for what should be a really enjoyable evening.”
A promotional poster for the event is available to share, and the evening will also be promoted through the Mayor of Shrewsbury’s Facebook page.
Shrewsbury Street Pastors provide a visible, caring presence in the town centre at night, offering reassurance, practical help and support to people when they need it most, while West Mercia Search & Rescue is a volunteerled emergency service that works alongside the police and other agencies to help locate missing and vulnerable people, often in challenging conditions.
