An award-winning leisure company is backing Shrewsbury Town Football Club to bounce back to the EFL League One after renewing its sponsorship for the coming season.
Salop Leisure, based at Emstrey, Shrewsbury, is sponsoring a stand at the club’s Croud Meadow Stadium for the 16th season in a row. The Salop Leisure stand is a prominent feature of the stadium, which has a capacity of just under 10,000.
Although Shrewsbury Town were relegated to League Two at the end of last season, Ed Glover, from Salop Leisure, is hopeful that they will be competing for promotion when the new season kicks off next month under manager Michael Appleton.
Mr Glover urged more Shrewsbury businesses to get behind the club and become sponsors. “The football club plays a major role in our local community and does a great job in promoting our town,” he said.
“It’s important that everybody gets behind the club to drive them forward next season because they rely heavily on sponsorship to be able to compete with much bigger clubs.
“We were obviously disappointed, like every other supporter, that we were relegated last season but now it’s time to look ahead to the new season with optimism.”
Steve Maden, the club’s commercial sales manager, said: “It’s great to have such a longstanding partnership with Salop Leisure whose chairman Tony Bywater and associate director Ed Glover are massive supporters of Shrewsbury Town and do a lot for the club.
“I spend most of my week trying to attract more businesses to support the club and it would be great if more of them got behind Shrewsbury Town.
“The club’s goal for the new season is to be promoted back to Division One where we belong and everything is looking good under manager Michael Appleton who is preparing for the pre-season friendlies.”
